Upcoming and Ongoing Events
Morning Prayer at St. Francis
Weekdays until Friday, April 14 -- 8:30 am
This a Benedictine inspired prayer service that was the most often used by the Anglican Communion from the restoration under Elizabeth I until the second half of the twentieth century. It is a wonderful Lenten discipline taking about twenty-five minutes to complete. It will be read, rain or shine, congregation or no -- only the reader is required, though prayer supporters are always welcome.
Easter Flowers and Music
Each year at Easter-time the church is beautifully decorated with spring flowers. It is the custom at St. Francis for parishioners to make donations toward the purchase of these flowers in memory of loved ones or in thanksgiving for some special moment in their lives. Our Choir also offers special music with professional instrumental accompaniment during the Easter Service. If you would like to give to either or both of these funds, please fill out the envelope enclosed with your Sunday bulletin and return it to the church office or place it in the offering basket. To have your memorials or thanksgivings listed in the Easter bulletins, we will need to receive donations by Palm Sunday, April 9th.
Seeking Donations of Candy for the Easter Egg Hunt
Please bring in small, wrapped candy or small trinkets to fit inside of plastic Easter eggs. You may leave the donations in the parish office on the lower level. (Please note: No more plastic eggshells are needed -- we have plenty of them, thank you!) If the donations can be made by the morning of Sunday, April 2nd, that would be ideal, since the youth are gathering in Millen Hall that evening at 5:00 pm, to stuff the Easter Egg Shells. Of course donations arriving after April 2nd will not be turned away, but getting the candy here this week will give our youth plenty to do in supporting this wonderful parish event for our children, in celebration of Easter. Thank you for your consideration and generosity!
Raise Cash for St. Francis by Shopping on Amazon!
All you have to do is access your Amazon account from the St. Francis website. The link is found in the bottom right corner on the home page and from there you can log onto your Amazon account. If you have not done so already, sign up for AmazonSmile (free) and designate St. Francis Episcopal Church as beneficiary.
When you access your Amazon account through the St. Francis website, the church benefits from two Amazon programs. The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organization selected by the customer. With Amazon Associates when an organization that is registered creates a link on their website and customers click through that link to buy products from Amazon, the organization earns money. The St. Francis website link takes you directly to the AmazonSmile portal and includes the church's Amazon Associate account information as well.
Amazon will send any funds earned directly into the St. Francis bank account. And all you do is shop on Amazon! If you have any questions, please contact Molly Reynolds at firstname.lastname@example.org.
St. Francis Women's Annual Retreat
Please reserve Friday, April 21 to meet up with friends at the Quarte Goomba Winery (Aldie, VA) for an afternoon of catching up and/or wine tasting. Last year, we brought snacks to share; some folks tried the wine others opted to bring soft drinks. The main reason for the gathering is the company, so come!
Following the social time, we will then proceed to Shrine Mont for our Annual Women's Retreat. (April 21-23, 2017). The grounds will be beautiful this time of year. You are invited to attend one or both. Tracey, along with a few parishioners will be helping to lead the retreat this year. Please prayerfully think about joining us.
This year's theme: "Simple Gifts, Nurturing Our Desire for God" This is a time that you set aside for "you and God". God wants our attention, God has much to share with us! Come and listen and see how you can learn new ways of creating more time for God. Registration forms are located in the narthex. Questions? Please email or call The Reverend Tracey Kelly, 703-759-2082, email@example.com or Kathy Anderson, firstname.lastname@example.org
