Medical Brigade Supplies Drive
July 9 - 30
St. Francis will hold its annual drive to support the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade Mission Trip to Honduras beginning Sunday, July 9. The Medical Brigade sends an Eye Care Team, Surgery Team, Rehabilitation Team, and Public Health Education Team on the Mission Trip to serve the poor who lack these medical services. Cindy Elkin, a parishioner and dear friend of many of us, led the Eye Care Team for many years. She suddenly departed this life in 2015, and we have been holding this annual drive in her memory. The Mission Trip will be in November, and the supplies for the trip must be ready to ship in the Brigade's shipping container in August. The last day of the drive will be Sunday, July 30.
In addition to its annual medical mission trip, the Brigade runs a Remote Village Project, which operates year-round to provide healthcare access in rural villages hours away from the nearest hospitals. The Project also provides clean water for over 7,000 people, smokeless stoves, sanitation, and general health education. As a result, the communities served by the Project are less vulnerable to disease. For more information on the Medical Brigade's outstanding work see their Website http://www.vhcmedicalbrigade.org/
