The Alternative House Meal Team
For almost nine months a small group of Franciscans has been providing Sunday dinner twice a month for teens who are at the Alternative House Emergency Shelter. This shelter is a place that "offers a safe haven to young people in crisis. When a young person has nowhere to turn, Alternative House's door is always open. Teens who have run away, been turned out of their homes, are homeless, abused or otherwise in crisis are welcome."
For the Franciscan participants this has been an extremely rewarding ministry and we invite others to join us. Typically two volunteers create a dinner and take it to Alternative House (located on Gallows Road in Vienna/Tysons area). The teens are responsible for setting the table and helping with clean up. The time committment for the meal providers beyond food preparation is about an hour and quarter with arrival on Sunday evening at 5:15 pm and departing around 6:30 pm.
