The Outreach Committee promotes specific outreach projects in our community, our city, and the world. The committee makes grants to worthy projects, facilitates parishioner involvement in hands-on projects, screens requests for help, and mobilizes an appropriate response. Committee meetings are usually held on the third Sunday of the month. Some of the major outreach emphases are:
This group seeks to care for the urgent needs of people in our community, including providing food, clothing, shelter, and assistance on a short-term basis. Ministry partners include SHARE of McLean, Cornerstone, and The Salvation Army Grate Patrol.
Care for Children
This group seeks to care for children and youth in crisis or need. Ministry partners include: Jackson- Feild Homes, Alternative House, and the Boys' Home in Covington, VA. In addition, we provide a scholarship for the Creche preschool, and a Christmas party for children in Transitional Housing.
This group works to give people a leg up in life and help them make important transitions, whether it is in finding jobs, housing, or other supportive services. Ministry partners include: Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, Transitional Housing Corporation, Loudoun Therapeutic Riding Foundation, and Northern Virginia Mental Health through the Fairfax County/Falls Church Community Services Board.
This group seeks to embody God's love for people in other places, at home and abroad. This includes the Youth Mission Trip and also helping to facilitate members of St. Francis participating in short-term missions of all sorts.
This group works to support ongoing relationships with people around the world. Ministry partners include: St. Francis Basic School in Juba, South Sudan, Five Talents (micro-lending), the Kenya Education Fund, Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade, and Valle Boneto Orphanage (Honduras).
