Holy Baptism

Baptism3 6.19.16" . . .you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own forever. Amen."

Are you seeking a church to have your child baptized or to receive the sacrament of Holy Baptism yourself? St. Francis welcomes you, and we encourage you to talk with our clergy about your plans.

Holy Baptism is initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the Church. Through the sacrament of baptism, God gives us the gift of new life, and we become members of the Church forever.

Baptism 6.19.16Baptisms are community celebrations that take place as part of a Sunday morning or other Holy Day service that includes the Holy Eucharist. This is a joyful way to welcome the baptized into our church community. Parents and godparents participate in the baptism of infants and children; adults include their sponsors in the baptism ceremony.

St. Francis follows the baptism service found in the Book of Common Prayer (see BCP/Baptism here), including the vows and baptismal covenant, the pouring of Holy Water from the font over the candidate's head, and the consecration with oil.

The newly baptized are then welcomed by the congregation.

If you would like to learn more about Holy Baptism at St. Francis Episcopal Church and set up a time to talk with clergy, please call the church office at 703-759-2082.
