Help us furnish an Afghan refugee family’s home

We need lots of Franciscans’ help!

The St. Francis Outreach Committee is launching its one-month program to furnish an apartment for an Afghan refugee family, and we need your help! Working with Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA), we will gather and purchase all the necessary items for a family of five. The need is great, as most families arrived with very little.

We’ve put together a list of needed items–everything from furniture to dishes, lamps, and more. The list is in the form of a Signup Genius, so you can put your name beside the item(s) you’ll be providing. We also need funds to buy new mattresses and to pay for the moving truck, groceries, and a few other items. You can sign up to provide funds at the end of the Signup Genius list or you can write a check to “St. Francis” and put “Afghan Family” in the memo line. You can also donate via PayPal by CLICKING HERE. Please make sure you select the “Outreach” drop down, and when in the final payment screen on the “Memo Information” line, please type in “AFD” (for Afghan Family Drive).

Our timeline is fast! We’ll collect the items over the month of January and plan to furnish the apartment in the first half of February. We will need helpers on the day of the move and will share the date, once it is set.

The generosity of the people of St. Francis knows no bounds, as we’ve learned in previous outreach projects. Please visit the Signup Genius list to learn more and to make your commitment.
