David Black

David has been a parishioner for 8 years.

I grew up in Fairfax County (Oakton), graduated from U.Va. in 1991 and from Georgetown Law in 1996.  I have practiced law since that time and am currently the Co-Chair of the Government Contracts Team at Holland & Knight LLP.  I have attended St. Francis since 2013.  My wife Oliya has participated in our community since our marriage in 2014.  Our two children – Sasha and Matthew – were both baptized here.  Since the Fall of 2016, I have coordinated our acolyte ministry, participating as one of our rotating acolytes myself since that time.  I served on the committee for the stewardship campaigns of 2015 and 2016.

I care about our community of worship, fellowship, and service.  I understand we face challenges coming off 2020 and heading into 2021, which hopefully sees the return of in-person worship in due course.  I also believe there is a continuing need in Great Falls for a spiritual home that is a welcoming beacon of hope.  In the current turbulence, people in our community will be searching for bigger meaning and purpose and a bigger sense of identity.  Many will be open to finding that in the Good News of Christ.  St. Francis plays an important role by providing a place for people seeking such a home.  I am willing to offer and apply what I can in service to our church.  I feel a call to help make our church a place where people feel the love and renewal of the Good News and can practice what it means to live forward as a unified people in the Kingdom.
