What are we going to do about blessing our animals and celebrating the Feast of St Francis, our patronal feast day this year? There is a two-part answer to this question.
The first part addresses the Patronal Feast:
On Sunday, October 3, 2021, we will use the Proper liturgy for the Feast of St. Francis at the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services. St. Francis’s calendar date is October 4. So, according to the permission set forth in the in the Book of Common Prayer, we are transferring that date to a convenient Sunday. There will be a baptism on that day, as well. So, plan to be at the church as we remember the example set by the saint from Assisi.
For the blessing of the animals:
We will observe that service at 5:00 PM on October 3 with our animal friends joining us in the field in front of the church where the cross is stationed. The service will be shorter and involve a reading from the Bible, a reading of prayers, and a blessing of the animals (house pets, barnyard animals, birds, reptiles, and stuffies.) This is a great opportunity to invite a friend, quadrupedal, bipedal, winged, or finned.
Sunday, October 3, 2021,
8:00 AM Eucharist,
10:00 AM Baptism and Eucharist, and
5:00 PM Blessing of the Animals.
See you at St. Francis!
