FRANCISCO-FACT: We made it to Easter, what now?

We made it to Easter (the Feast of the Resurrection), what now?

This week we will hear the story from the Gospel of John when the disciples, after the resurrection, are gathered in an upper room, mostly doing nothing, as they tried to comprehend what happened. This may be a good course of action—no, not the gathering in the upper-room part, that would most likely violate the social distancing norms—rather the trying to comprehend and bring meaning part. The resurrected Jesus is the key to getting things sorted out for the disciples with his breathing the Holy Spirit into them. Here are some things that might help us in sorting things out.

  1. Intercessory Prayers—During Morning Prayer there is time to add intercessions and thanksgivings for those for whom you believe prayer is important: those who are in need, those whom you love, those for whom thanksgiving should be offered. Think about who you might add to our intercessions each Sunday and be prepared speak that person’s or persons’ name out loud in the silence at the appropriate time in the service.
  2. Contemplative Prayer—This is an important kind of prayer to sort out all the confusing things that are being thrown at us at this time or anytime. It happens on Monday nights at 7:30 PM.
  3. Morning Prayer—We are reading through the stories of the Exodus and the appearances after the resurrection. We are praying for the world, those in trouble, these in need of healing, and more. We connect daily, catch-up with each other, and listen to God in our lives. This happens Monday through Friday at 8:00 AM.
  4. Office Hours—On Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Tracey or David will be at our Zoom site for time to speak, reflect, ask questions, and check-in. If we need more times, we will add them.
  5. Rector’s Bible Study—Mondays from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. We study the readings for the upcoming week up in the Episcopal Church Eucharistic Lectionary. The reading selections will be in the Weekly email and can be found at https://www.lectionarypage.net/, http://www.satucket.com/lectionary/, and at https://www.missionstclare.com/english/. Join in for learning and community.
  6. Thursday Bible Study—Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Currently we are looking at the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians. A great reflecting place with wonderful camaraderie.

The Apostles did not get going immediately after Easter and we, should not expect to get going immediately either. But this is a good time to pray, study, reflect, and prepare for serving our Lord, Jesus, faithfully.
